Olive tree is a low tree (Lat. Olea europaea, meaning European olive tree) native to Mediterranean Europe, Asia and Africa. You can recognise it by its lance-shaped green leaves and small white flowers, and in late autumn the fruits ripen - olives, which are particularly prized in Mediterranean cuisine.

The oldest fossils found prove that the olive tree originated 20-40 million years ago in what is now Italy, and humans began cultivating it about 7,000 years ago.
